Saint Lawrence Catholic Parish & School
Indianapolis, Indiana
With no acceptable options to expand their 10½-acre site and no desire to uproot their position as an established community anchor, the parish and school sought to overhaul their existing site in an effort to accommodate continued growth. Analysis of existing conditions revealed that various programmed uses, such as classes, recreation, meals, prayer & worship, adult ministry, maintenance and others, were scattered across the site in six different buildings and limited open space. This disconnect is further complicated by the striking difference in uses on a typical school day compared to weekend masses and other functions. In all cases the existing configuration perpetuated major conflicts between pedestrians and vehicles. The resulting master plan unites existing and proposed elements in such a way to maximize safety, efficiency and flexibility.

As project landscape architect Andy Albright led the site planning efforts from site analysis through conceptualization, refinement and phasing study. Andy worked with the architect to develop alternate site plans in accordance with three different building addition layouts. The final configuration was then refined and further studied in five phases to allow continued use of existing church and school facilities during construction.
