Isaac Ray Treatment Center

Logansport, IN
Client: Indiana State Office Building Commission

The 115,000-square feet, 105-bed forensic evaluation and treatment facility at Logansport State Hospital provides specialized care for both men and women and is Indiana’s first to specialize in therapeutic healing. Delivering the highest quality of mental healthcare while maintaining the safety and security of patients, staff and visitors is the highest priority at the facility, and special attention is given to enhancing patient quality of life.

LEED® Silver Certified for New Construction

In 2006, the $21.3 million facility became the first building in the state of Indiana to receive LEED NC certification and the first government sector healthcare facility in the country to be awarded the honor.

To this goal, the 20-acre site is a true extension of the healing process. Outdoor spaces, including seven interior courtyards and a large outdoor space bounded by security fences and high masonry walls, provide active and passive recreational opportunities yet adhere to very strict safety and security guidelines. Thorough research ensured that all plants are non-toxic, non-narcotic and could not be used as a weapon in any way. Publicly-accessed campus green spaces feature a consistent palette of materials that link access drives, parking and facility perimeters and call special attention to pedestrian ways and the drop-off area.

As project landscape architect from design development through implementation, Andy Albright was responsible for the final design and layout of all site plantings and related landscape elements. LEED credits were awarded for the use of locally grown, native plant materials, which minimize water-usage and maintenance on the non-irrigated site.
